Making the Invisible Visible: Solveigh Olsson-Hultgren Writes a History of Women in the 20th Century (Helene Ehriander)

In 2002, the Swedish author Solveig Olsson-Hultgren won the BonnierCarlsen award in the history category of children’s literature for her first book in the series about the Andersson sisters, Silk and Velvet, Tatters and Rags (Swedish title: Siden, sammet, trasa, lump, not translated into English). On receiving the award, Solveig OlssonHultgren decided to act upon her strong ideological convictions and fulfil her dream of becoming a full-time author. History has always been one of her foremost interests and she writes particularly about the lives of girls and women. Olsson-Hultgren intends to write a book for each decade of the twentieth century and the respective volumes relate the pertinent social situation for girls and women in each time frame. With the publication of the eighth instalment in 2008, the series about the women in the Andersson family reached the 1950s. [...]
